Could Adam Lambert's performance at the GMAs have been sensual without being cr or lewd?

While there is a fine line between acceptable and vulgar when it comes to heteroual entertainers' performances, there is a way for such performances to not offend while still expressing the sensual. Is there such a fine line for overtly performances as well, or is there no societally-acceptable way for gays to express their uality without being considered obscene by the mainstream?
